We may not make you a millionaire, but we do have pictures of all sorts of riches. We’d like to give you a chance to discover our treasures: art, culture, and learning.

We’ve taken four cultures and picked out interesting and important aspects of them. Now we’d like you to re-discover these cultures by putting the pieces back together. It’s your turn to become an archeologist, using artifacts and outside knowledge (which we can also provide) to make new discoveries about cultures.

Each culture has several artifacts for you to find. They may not be what you think of as art, necessarily, but they all are products of people’s creativity, and that’s the essence of art. Each shows you a different aspect of the culture so that you can piece together a fairly coherent image of what life was like at that time in that place.  Click to choose Egypt as your excavation site.  Brief info.  Good

http://www.idahoptv.org/ntti/nttilessons/lessons2002/mortimer.htm

A lesson plan for grades 5-7 on the tomb of Tutankhamun.  King Tutankhamun was a shadowy and little known figure in the late 18th (1550-1295 BC) dynasty. He became king when he was 9 years old and died at 17. His tomb was preserved because little was known about him; no one knew he was around until Howard Carter discovered the tomb in November of 1922. His tomb, which was built for a high official and not a king, was hidden under a building. This enabled the tomb to stay complete and unharmed by robbers. His tomb was filled with beautiful treasures and it took years too catalogue and move the items out of the tomb. His tomb was considered to be the most exceptional archeology discovery ever made in Egypt. Many believed that the tomb was cursed and that the items should not be tampered with. This myth is believed and opposed by many. One reason the curse is believed by many is because Lord Carnarvon, the man who funded Howard Carters excavation, died of a blood infection caused by a mosquito a few months after the discovery.
Through the activities in this lesson the students will become familiar with the period in Egyptian history that King Tut lived in and learn about the culture of that time period.”

I WANT MY MUMMY! – WEBQUEST – THE SCIENTIFIC AND SOCIAL CONTROVERSY OF UNEARTHING HUMAN REMAINS

http://home.cfl.rr.com/mrshebert/Mummy/index.htm

A webquest for upper elementary students on mummies.  The President of Egypt is in a dilemma. You see, deep in the heart of Egypt, in the long forgotten city of Mzabwa, world famous archaeologist, Dr. Doug N. Deep has discovered what he believes to be the ancient burial site of Pharaoh Leevme-Lohn, who is believed to be a predecessor to King Tut! Dr. Deep believes that the mummy could be the key to understanding ancient Egyptians and their culture. He also stands to gain international fame, hence fortune, if he can secure a permit that will allow him to continue the dig and unearth the mummy.

Soon word of this fantastic find got out, and people from all over Egypt began to arrive at the dig site, but not all for the same reasons. The first to arrive at the site was Egypt’s Minister of National Antiquities (MONA). MONA is dedicated not only to the preservation of national ancient sites, but also to preventing all foreigners from getting ahold of anything that could be of value to the country. In the past, too many relics and artifacts have been whisked away right under the collective noses of MONA and taken to distant lands. MONA intends to do all it can to make sure that never happens again. It’s a matter of national pride, as well as financial gain.

The arrival of MONA was followed closely by that of the curator of the Museum of Egyptian Relics (MER). The curator recognizes the incredible educational value of such an historic find. Additionally, she can earn a huge raise, as well as a promotion to the position of Curator of the National Museum of Egypt, if she can convince the President to award possession of the mummy to MER for a period of one year.

Not far behind the others was the arrival of the head of a watchdog group called Egyptians for the Preservation of Ancient History (EPAH). Members of this group are direct descendants of Pharaoh. EPAH’s only purpose is to try and prevent scientists from disturbing the ancient burial mound. Besides being sacred ground to the EPAHs, legend claims that opening the mummy's sarcophagus will cause a curse to be cast over all of Egypt!

How would you advise the President of Egypt regarding the excavation of Pharaoh? To which person or group should the President grant custody of the mummy, thereby determining its fate? You and your group must make this tough decision on behalf of all the citizens in Egypt.

Do your best…. the entire world is awaiting your decision!”  Excellent

ÊÊÊÊ Come along with me on a journey through time and space, or should I say "cyberspace", to this amazing land.Ê Together, we will explore the systems and structures the ancient Egyptian civilization developed to meet the needs of its people.Ê When our journey ends, we will realize that many aspects of this fascinating culture are still evident today!”  (Ignore the Ê’s in the quote – computer glitch on their site)   Note: We found a couple of broken links on this site.  Very Good
